Westside Beach Cities
Malibu
Malibu is a city located in Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 12,575.
The City of Malibu is a beachfront community famous for its warm, sandy beaches and for being the home of countless movie stars and others associated with the Southern California motion picture and recording industries. Most Malibu residents live within a few hundred yards of Pacific Coast Highway (Calif. Route 1) which (more or less) bisects the city; the city is also bounded (more or less) by Pacific Palisades to the southeast, the Santa Monica Mountains to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the south, and Zuma State Beach and Ventura County to the northwest. Its other beaches include Malibu State Beach and Topanga State Beach; its parks include Malibu Creek State Park and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. A popular bumper sticker
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a beachside city located in Los Angeles County, California USA, on the Pacific Ocean, south of Pacific Palisades and Brentwood, west of Westwood, Los Angeles, and north of Venice. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 84,084.
Santa Monica sits on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific. Palisades Park is a favorite walking area to view the ocean. Next to this park, the courtyard of the Miramar Hotel contains an enormous Moreton Bay Fig tree that was mentioned by the Californios of the 1700s.
Because of its benign weather, Santa Monica was a famed resort town in the early 20th century. Now, the city has been subsumed into the welter of towns in Los Angeles, but is still considered a pleasant place to live
Venice Beach
The "Venice of America" was founded by Abbot Kinney in 1905 and was annexed to Los Angeles in 1904.
Venice is known for its and beach and a number of canals left over from the early real estate development program. It includes both upscale and bohemian residents and is noted for a colorful boardwalk that runs along the beachfront.
The boardwalk (properly Ocean Front Walk), with its street musicians, colorful drifters, and outspoken personalities, as well as restaurants and night clubs, is a great magnet for tourists, even those from other parts of Los Angeles.
Venice's unique and somewhat exotic urban landscape has been depicted in many films, as well as TV shows and commercials where it can be seen virtually every day. In Orson Welles's Touch of Evil, for instance, Venice quite persuasively took on the appearance of a Mexican border town. Venice is also well known for Muscle Beach, an area where people come to lift weights and promenade.
Marina del Rey
Marina del Rey is a district just south of Venice. Its Fisherman's Village offers a good view of Marina del Rey's dominant feature, a large man-made harbor with about 6000 pleasure boats and yachts. The marina is includes many hotels, restaurants, the USC Information Sciences Institute and ICANN
