History
Torrance was founded in 1911 by Jared S. Torrance, (1852-1921), a real estate developer who planned a residential and industrial community.

Dicovery of petroleum in 1921 greatly increased interest in the community. Farms and large agriculture operations were in place, with farmers growing fruits & flowers. Torrance was incorporated in 1921 and is now the home of many large corporations active in electronics, plastics, aluminum and otherother diverse business areas.

Torrance has 1.5 miles of beach with lifeguard patrol, bath house facilities, and public parking. Its many recreational opportunities include 24 parks totaling 300 acres with golfing, swimming, tennis flower gardens and more.
